Choose Q (25%) or H (30%) when the code may be dirty, partially covered, or printed small, and L (7%) only when you need maximum data density in a controlled environment. Higher levels let the code survive more damaged modules but make the symbol denser for the same payload.

Should I download the PNG or the SVG?

Use the SVG whenever the code will be printed or scaled, because vector output stays sharp at any size. Use the PNG for chat apps, slide decks, or anywhere you need a raster file at a fixed pixel size; the PNG download is rendered natively at the pixel size you selected.

The usual causes are insufficient quiet zone (the empty margin around the symbol), poor contrast between modules and background, printing too small, or too much data packed into a dense symbol. This generator adds a 2-module quiet zone automatically; keep dark modules on a light background and test with a real phone camera before mass printing.

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The generator creates static QR codes that encode your text directly in the symbol. There is no redirect service and no account involved, so the code works forever as long as the content it points to (such as a URL) remains valid.

How much text can a QR code hold?

At the largest symbol version and lowest error correction, the QR standard holds up to 7,089 digits, 4,296 alphanumeric characters, or 2,953 bytes of binary data. Capacity shrinks as you raise the error correction level, and multi-byte UTF-8 characters consume several bytes each. The byte counter next to the settings shows how large your current input is.

Is my text sent to a server to generate the code?

Accepted Answer

No. The QR symbol is computed entirely in your browser as you type, and the preview and downloads are produced locally. Nothing is uploaded.
